Lucifur the Ferret
< Lucifur, with stitch marks after his neutering operation.
I’ve finally confirmed an order for a male sable ferret. His name shall be Lucifur.
The photo above was taken by the dealer. He’s a little dirty but a good shower will take care of that. As you can see, the fur around his crotch region was shaved off for the neutering operation. It will grow back quickly. Most importantly, his marking, particularly his mask, is nice and prominent, not too dark, not too light.
Ferrets have the tendency to change their colour as they grow, so there’s no telling how he’ll look like as an adult. But the basic markings remain.
Lucifur is still in North Carolina, currently in preparations to be flown over. Apparently there’s no quarantine necessary for ferrets coming into Malaysia, which is cool. We can expect to meet Lucifur and a bunch of other fuzzies in a week or two.
What the hell issit?? I don’t really blame you. It looks like a giant hamster’s face photoshopped onto a cat’s body, and in Lucifur’s case, wearing a raccoon mask. It also actually behaves like a puppy that never grows up, minus the barking.
A ferret is a very close relative of the polecat, but it is as yet unclear whether it is a domesticated form of the European polecat, the Steppe polecat, or some hybrid of the two. I won’t go into details. It’s all here.
I’ll share something rather interesting that I’ve noticed so far - the demographics/psychographics of existing/potential ferret owners:
1. They most likely have a dog in their house (may belong to other members of household).
2. They do not particularly fancy cats.
3. They at one point or another have loved hamsters.
4. They have a tendency of watching animes.
5. They are fairly sociable with others.
6. They are related to advertising or design in some way.
7. They do not have kids (maybe just 1).
If you’re reading this and 3 or more of the above points apply, join the gang at www.homeapet.com
You can seek advice from experienced ferret owners at the forum. And as you can see, there are already gatherings, yumca sessions etc amongst owners.. and fans
I’m hoping to see the formation of MFA (Malaysian Ferret Association) in the near future.
Anyway, back to Lucifur, toes-crossed he’ll arrive safe and healthy at KLIA with the others. A good bath is waiting for you Lucifur!!
