Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater (Lasiodora parahybana)
October 8th, 2007 by huojin
^My Salmon Pink, currently at 3.5 inches
The Salmon Pink is the world’s second largest Tarantula, reaching lengths of up to 10 inches. Bryan and I decided to purchase one together from a retired MTS member for about RM90 each. Good price for a 2.5 inch sling (spiderling)!
Here’s a Salmon Pink caresheet.

02> After moult at 3.5" with beautiful colour and pattern.

Kembali ke Bali (Day 1)
After almost 3 long years, Sara and I once again set foot on the heavenly Cempaka-scented island.. Bali. Having visited most of the local attractions back in 2005, we were just there to chill-out this time around.
We stayed at the same 2-star Bali Indah Hotel in Kuta, which is a 5-minute walk to the beach for about RM80 a night.
Catching Doraemon on Indonesian TV was pretty shocking. Check his voice out. Horrid!!
Sewa Motor Honda ke Ubud (Day 2)
Waduh, bahaya sungguh bersepeda motor.
And so, I rented a Honda Supra for 2 days at the price of Rp.30.000(RM12) a day. The first 30 minutes was pretty tricky, being my very first time riding a motorbike, I had to familiarise myself with the controls and the hardest part was actually balancing when starting off from first gear. To make things worse, I chose the manual Supra cos the automatic Mio scooter was nerdy. And to top that off, I did not have an international license.
Raksaksa Sudah Muncul!
We set out to Pasar Ubud. On our way out of Kuta, I was pulled over by two raksaksa’s (Polisi) for not stopping behind the line at the traffic light. 5 minutes later, there was a road-block ahead and many more raksaksa’s waiting to suck us foreigners dry. Once again I had to dig into my wallet.
Not having the international license, I donated Rp.250.000(RM94) in total to the Polisi-polisi of Bali. Much to my relief, I later learned that the temporary license (that could be made in Bali) happen to cost around Rp.200.000 too. Phew
Satu Jam Setengah Kemudian
We arrived in Pasar Ubud and managed to satisfy ourselves with some lovely crafts. Our bargains were pleasant and the sellers seem to be less aggressive this time around. Perhaps I did not bargain ridiculously like I used to back in 2005 (I was poor then), or maybe its just low-tourist season. For bargaining tips, ask me and I’ll teach you how to get the best buys.
We balanced our stuff on the bike and headed home, once again stopping every now and then for directions and photos. Even though the tissues turned black after we wiped our faces, the motor ride was liberating and a great chance to appreciate the natural surroundings of Bali. If you lack confidence, I don’t recommend doing what I did. The roads are often narrow and traffic is slightly hazardous.
Here’s the stuff I got myself in Ubud. An intricate elephant candle light box that’s made from steel. Next is a glass mosaic tray, and lastly, a wood-carved giraffe (seen here with a bottle of Absolut for size comparison). Sara bagged an identical elephant, a red glass mosaic tray, and some silver bracelets.
Cuaca Dingin dan Sunset yang Indah Sekali (Day 3)
The weather was really fine this time of the year, and we spent hours just strolling around Kuta, checking out surf shops and designer crafts.
We were blessed with cool wind everyday and a most beautiful sunset on
the one evening we relaxed at the beach. The sky was clear, the clouds
were away, and everyone was just sitting there with their mobiles and
cameras set ready. We also agreed to let two old ladies give us a foot scrub and leg massage for Rp.25.000(RM10) a person.
In the meantime, Sara’s obsession with Michael Buble’s version of Quando, Quando, Quando playing from her Sony Walkman mobile has got to me. It’s humming in my head everyday
Perhaps the lyrics do make a whole lot of sense… Let me show you the way, to a joy beyond compare. I can wait a moment more… Tell me quando, quando, quando.. Oh my darling tell me when.
The time spent together couldn’t have got any better. She reminds me of the good things in life and how meaningful life could be, only if you put meaning and value into the things you do, especially when it comes to caring for one another. It takes a lot of courage and spirit to pull through the hard times. It’s really inspiring to see someone being able to achieve happiness and fulfillment at where they are today. Life’s dreadfulness and reward is just a matter of perception. *Much gratitude and adoration to you, Sasa-chan* :]
Barong Dance and Babi Guling (Day 4)
We woke up early on the last day to visit a nearby temple for the Barong & Keris Dance performance. It was all right.. not as mind-blowing as the Kecak Dance in Pura Luhur Uluwatu (a must-experience for all culture/performance-art fans).
After watching the cute Barong in action, we headed to a warung for babi guling. If you haven’t notice, the Balinese are Hindus and not Muslim. Served with rice, cili padi, soup and satay or pork liver/heart if you wish, the meal was awesome at Rp.10.000-15.000(RM4-RM6) per person.
Sara headed off to the airport in the afternoon for her direct flight to Singapore. I went to relax at the beach once more and chatted with a Taiwanese surfer chick over a massage session. There were also these 2 cute Asian chicks who smiled at me a lot. It was funny, I felt like I was in high-school again. Too bad I didn’t bother finding out where they were from cos I had to leave for my flight in the evening. I rolled up my sarong mat and smiled at them as I stepped out of the sandy shore.
I showered, packed my stuff, took a good look at my room, and shut the door. Selamat tinggal Bali.
System Down
September 18th, 2007 by huojin
^This is my head. It ran too much.
Even when I went to bed, I couldn’t sleep.. cos my brain was running. I don’t know what for, but it kept running and running… annoyingly, with work, ideas.. with unproductive dreams of daily routine.
Until it finally JAMMED. I fell ill.
I was diagnosed with throat and upper respiratory infection, which blessed me with fever, flu, nausea, and vomiting. I’m still sucking in the mucus through my nostrils as I type. What’s become of my health?
It all started when I overworked last week and didn’t manage to get sufficient sleep. My immune went really low and viruses seized the opportunity. Now my head is still feeling a little loose. My nose is stuck.
Here are some updates before I fly off to Bali later today till Saturday in my semi-charmed health.
01> Megatron turns out to be a female and gave birth to about 20-30 young.
02> Cute baby Heterometrus Spinifer on my pinky. Black dots are its eyes.
03> Lucifur’s newly setup home.

05-07> A quick DIY trim before heading off to Bali.
Lucifur the Ferret
September 8th, 2007 by huojin
< Lucifur, with stitch marks after his neutering operation.
I’ve finally confirmed an order for a male sable ferret. His name shall be Lucifur.
The photo above was taken by the dealer. He’s a little dirty but a good shower will take care of that. As you can see, the fur around his crotch region was shaved off for the neutering operation. It will grow back quickly. Most importantly, his marking, particularly his mask, is nice and prominent, not too dark, not too light.
Ferrets have the tendency to change their colour as they grow, so there’s no telling how he’ll look like as an adult. But the basic markings remain.
Lucifur is still in North Carolina, currently in preparations to be flown over. Apparently there’s no quarantine necessary for ferrets coming into Malaysia, which is cool. We can expect to meet Lucifur and a bunch of other fuzzies in a week or two.
What the hell issit?? I don’t really blame you. It looks like a giant hamster’s face photoshopped onto a cat’s body, and in Lucifur’s case, wearing a raccoon mask. It also actually behaves like a puppy that never grows up, minus the barking.
A ferret is a very close relative of the polecat, but it is as yet unclear whether it is a domesticated form of the European polecat, the Steppe polecat, or some hybrid of the two. I won’t go into details. It’s all here.
I’ll share something rather interesting that I’ve noticed so far - the demographics/psychographics of existing/potential ferret owners:
1. They most likely have a dog in their house (may belong to other members of household).
2. They do not particularly fancy cats.
3. They at one point or another have loved hamsters.
4. They have a tendency of watching animes.
5. They are fairly sociable with others.
6. They are related to advertising or design in some way.
7. They do not have kids (maybe just 1).
If you’re reading this and 3 or more of the above points apply, join the gang at www.homeapet.com
You can seek advice from experienced ferret owners at the forum. And as you can see, there are already gatherings, yumca sessions etc amongst owners.. and fans
I’m hoping to see the formation of MFA (Malaysian Ferret Association) in the near future.
Anyway, back to Lucifur, toes-crossed he’ll arrive safe and healthy at KLIA with the others. A good bath is waiting for you Lucifur!!
Macross Zero 1/60 VF-0S & SV-51r by Yamato
September 7th, 2007 by huojinI just broke the "most expensive item" record with the SV-51r (black) at RM620/S$270. It exceeded the old record set by the VF-0S (white) by a mere RM80.
The SV-51r was purchased directly from a dealer in Singapore, thanks to Stella and her bf. Thanks to Lin, Brian and Sue Ann for getting the item to office
*paiseh* Otherwise this item would be a no buy - locally available at XL for RM828 and sold out within days.
It’s funny how I got poisoned by Macross. It all started with an VF-1S sharpener I had when I was a kid in Toa Payoh. Here’s the story.
I finally found time to shoot decent pictures of my new SV-51r alongside the VF-0S. Enjoy! But don’t blame me for poisoning you ya.. If you have multiple orgasms just looking at the following pix, well… just wait for the next pre-order :\

Chuck Taylor® All Star® Sailor Jerry
August 23rd, 2007 by huojinI was pretty psyched when I spotted these in Sungei Wang 2 days ago. I wanted to get them immediately but thought that there might be nicer ones available. So I checked out the Sailor Jerry range on converse.com and saw that I made the right choice. I called up Converse in Sunway Pyramid and collected them after work. Believe it or not, being a Pro-Keds fan, this is actually my first pair of Converse!
01> The box itself is pretty cool with their 2 trademark silver-ringed holes.
02> I’m a sucker for tattoo art, especially when there are roses and snakes involved.
03> RRP: RM139.90
04> "DEATH OR GLORY" it says.
Haruhi Suzumiya 1/8 PVC by Max Factory
August 21st, 2007 by huojinThis is Haruhi Suzumiya, the main character from The Meloncholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya. Standing at 1/8 scale and always released in limited pieces (thousands by the batch), Max Factory drove every otaku to the very end of their moe-resisting limits. They were ALL sold out in Japan within HOURS.
I managed to get mine in the very last minute from HLJ and flown in from Japan straight to office.
The details are great, paint job fantastic, almost flawless.. as one can always expect of Max Factory. It’s currently unavailable and pre-order for the 5th re-release has just ended! XD
01-03> All shots were taken in macro mode with my Sony T50.
04> Comes with a nice, simple base.
05> Shots are slightly off-focus, but not bad for freehand without mini-tripod.
06> "No peeping!"
07> Added motion blur to her finger to recreate the scene from Haruhi’s trademark dance.
Streamyx is FUBAR (fucked up beyond all recognition)
August 19th, 2007 by huojinIf you’re a torrent user like me who downloads movies, animes and music, you’ll realise that the downloads are not moving! wtf??? HERE’S WHY:
P2P/torrent users (20% of Streamyx subscribers) are using up most of the bandwith, slowing down everyone else’s browsing speed. So TM NET decides to pull the brake on all P2P activities, reducing my fucking speed from a glorious 120KB/s to a puny max of about 6KB/s (average 1KB/s). In plain English, BEFORE: 4 movies/1 day. AFTER: 1 movie/10 days. HOW FARKING PATHETIC!!!!
This control-action is called "throttling". TM NET is throttling our P2P bandwith.
According to TM NET Customer Care Service, this practice is not exceptional, and is already exercised overseas. Well yes, Australian ISP Exetel did it too, but they only throttled from noon to midnight, meaning P2P is back to full speed after 12am. TM NET is throttling us 24 HOURS a day, EVERYDAY! FUBAR!!!!!
You know, I really don’t get it. They were so blardy hardsell on their upgrade offers, and I thought, cool.. why not, 4 movies a day.. And so I upgraded my 512KB to 1MB… and today… this is what I get. This is what we all get!!!
The entire Malaysia is practically running on Streamyx, and what the hell do they do with the profits? May I kindly suggest INCREASE BANDWITH fuckheads!
If I only needed to farrrrking browse the web, can some genius from TM NET please explain why I need a 1MB line in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!
Writing to TM NET is a waste of time. Hundreds have done it. I’ve no movies to watch since my downloads are dead. That’s why I’m here, and you’re reading this. Please tell a friend that Streamyx is FUBAR. Thank you.
